WHAT MAKES SOMEONE A REAL CHRISTIAN?

What actually makes someone a real Christian?
No one is born a Christian. No one becomes a Christian gradually. No one deserves to be a Christian. No one is in themselves good enough to become a Christian. Yet there are millions of Christians in the world today.

The word “Christian(s)” is used several times in the Bible, and each time it is used to describe those who had believed on Jesus Christ.

Acts 11: 26 "And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch."
A real Christian is one who has carefully and deliberately placed his faith (“believed”) in Jesus Christ, God’s Son. The Bible uses other words to describe Christians, such as the “saved” and “believers.” How does someone actually become a real Christian? We must turn to the Bible, God’s Word, to find out the answer.

A Christian is someone who has learned and accepted the following facts:

1. EVERYONE IS A SINNER
Romans 3:10 "As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:"

Romans 3:23 "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;"

2. EVEN OUR VERY BEST MORAL EFFORTS ARE NOT GOOD ENOUGH FOR SALVATION
Isaiah 64:6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags;

Job 15:16 "How much more abominable and filthy is man, which drinketh iniquity like water?"

3. BECAUSE GOD IS HOLY, WE HAVE EARNED JUDGMENT ON OUR SINS
Romans 6: 23 "For the wages of sin is death"

4. JESUS CHRIST PAID THE FULL DEBT OF THE SIN OF EVERYONE IN THE WORLD
Romans 5:8,9 "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him."

5. REPENTANCE IS SORROW FOR YOUR SINS. YOU HAVE OFFENDED A HOLY GOD.
Proverbs 16:25 "There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

Acts 3:19 "Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out.

Acts 4:12 "Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved."

6. WE ARE SAVED BY SIMPLE FAITH, CALLING UPON THE NAME OF THE LORD
Romans 10:13 "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."

“Dear Lord God: I admit my sinfulness and the fact that I deserve judgment for my sin. I believe that Jesus Christ, your Son, died on the cross, was buried and rose again for me. According to your Word, I call upon you to save me, forgive all my sins, take me into your family, and make me a real Christian. Thank you for saving me. Amen.”
